Way back in 2015, some of the team behind (what was then) RetrowareTV and the driving force behind Retro Games Plus had a plan to bring a video game convention to Southern New England. While PAX East and Anime Boston were also around, RetroWorld Expo— or RWX, for short– was going to be focused on video gaming… mostly revolving around the retrogaming scene. It was held at the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford, CT and was a resounding success.

Here we are, 11 years later, and the convention has become huge. It lost a year to COVID– as many things did– in 2020, so 2026 is the 11th show. It’s the 9th show to be held at the Connecticut Convention Center, a move that happened in 201, and the extra space has been put to use well by Kris, Lance, and the entire planning team every year. The work that the team puts in, every year, to handle logistics, guest recruitment, talent relations, venue planning, staffing, and so many other things that showgoers don’t see or think about is massive. I was honored to assist with the event for the first few years, helping out with social media work and other operational things. I got to be part of what was an awesome yearly event, and it’s only gotten bigger and better since.
The information for this year’s show is just now starting to go live. It takes place during the weekend of September 12th-13th, the weekend after Labor Day. Tickets are available now for one or both days of the event, as well as a few different bundle options. The Super Turbo VIP package (the one I’ll be getting) covers both days while also offering sweet show goodies and early show access. Yes– I’m going as a fan this year, as I did in 2015.

As I am a fan of the event, I’ll be talking about it here (and on my socials) when I can over the coming months. I’ll share my past experiences, highlight guests and events, and share why I hope that I’ll be seeing you in September.
