I took a trip to a favorite local video game store called Retro World Games in Indian Orchard, Massachusetts a few days ago and grabbed a few things while I was there. I’ve added quite a few games from this store to my collection over the last half-year, and I always find things I’m interested in when I visit. What you see in the photo is what I got… here’s a bit more on each:
Die Hard Trilogy and Fighting Force (each Greatest Hits), original PlayStation: It’s a weird collecting quirk, but I keep my eye out for Greatest Hits variants of games that I really like… and I do genuinely enjoy both of these. Fighting Force is not a perfect beat-‘em-up game, but it’s one I have fondness for because of timing (as it was featured in the first issue of the Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine). Die Hard Trilogy stands out because of its light gun game and driving game, both of which I played a ton back in the day.
Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb, original Xbox: I’ve never played this, but have heard some interesting things. I saw that The Collective, who also developed the Revenge of the Sith game— as well as the well-regarded Buffy the Vampire Slayer game for the Xbox— helmed this one. Now I just need spare time to play it!
Star Trek: Shattered Universe, original Xbox: I have the PlayStation 2 version of this, and while there are annoying difficulty spikes, I can’t get enough space combat games like this. I still want my Wrath of Khan simulation, but this will do.
Jeopardy! (New/Sealed), Nintendo 64: I shared a photo of this recently, but I jumped on this for $50 because it is still sealed— despite some cosmetic damage over the decades. I originally bought this way back in 1998 while working at FuncoLand, and have always had fun with game show games. I’ll look forward to opening this up and freeing it from its plastic prison.
There are a couple of pieces of mail I’m expecting this coming week. One is for sharing in a few months, as part of my writing about the original PlayStation’s 30th anniversary here in the U.S., but the other will be shared when I get it. (It’s sealed!)
